His career as a church organist and choir director began in Ireland when he was 16 and continued in Canada until he was 81. He was a high school music teacher in Perth, then in Ottawa at Glebe Collegiate and at Sir Robert Borden. Over the years he influenced hundreds of Ottawa musicians - choir members, students, and three generations of his own family. He will be remembered for his passion for music, his sense of humour, his boundless energy, his generosity, his devotion to fitness, his adventurous spirit, his mastery of the cryptic crossword, and his ability to incorporate anything into a teachable moment. He will be greatly missed by his wife Moira, his children Janet Kidd (Richard), Kevin (Helen), Ian (Pam) and Maeve Weddle (Greg); his grandchildren Rachel, Diarmid, Brett, Fiona, Morgan, Aidan, Tarryn, Graham, Eva, Luke and Gavin; and his great grandson Liam.

Anne Rose Bryon (Reid) – November 9, 1924 – September 7, 2016  - After a life lived fully and with gusto, Anne Bryon died peacefully at the Madonna Residence in Ottawa.  She was the well-loved mother of Laura (Tony), Lisabeth (Michael), Norman (Alison) and Jay (Sue), and an incredible Nana to Rebecca, Stephanie, Jamie and Laurel.   She was predeceased by her beloved husband Norman in 1970.

Anne was the youngest of 5 children; she is predeceased by her parents, Wilfred John and Ellen, as well as her siblings – Mary, Eileen, Kay, Jean, and Wilfred. Anne’s early childhood was spent in northern Alberta.  She also had the good fortune to spend her youth in the beauty and nature of Vancouver – playing tennis, hiking in the mountains, playing goalie for her school field hockey team – she was athletic and unafraid.  A staunch friend, she nurtured her ties to schoolmates from this era for well over 6 decades and easily forged new friendships.  Becoming a navy wife in 1949, she led the usual nomadic existence residing in Washington, Halifax, Victoria and finally, Ottawa where her beloved husband, Norman, died all too early in 1970.  Undaunted, Anne continued on as a single parent to Laura, Lisabeth, Norman, and Jay while working in Personnel at what was then called Revenue Canada Taxation; she was well-regarded for her common sense and ability to bring order to chaos.  Retiring in 1989, she moved to Victoria – to be closer to family and to escape Ottawa winters.  She continued to lead an active life, volunteering well into her late 80s, socialising, and travelling.  She continued a family tradition of active involvement in politics.  She took in strays of all types.  Her cookie-baking sessions with her grandchildren were legendary.

In all things, Anne was fun, fearless, loyal, steadfast, and duty-bound.  She died, as she lived, surrounded by love.A memorial service will be held at Trinity Church, 1230 Bank Street, at 1:30 on Wednesday, September 14, with a reception to follow at the church.  In lieu of flowers, Anne asked that donations be made to the MS Society of Canada.

In Loving Memory of Christine Elizabeth Forget...

Christine Elizabeth Forget
March 21, 1955 - April 29, 2016

She left us far too soon.  Born to Joan (deceased), and Phil David, she leaves a legacy of love to sons Jason (Natasha), Jesse, and grandson Teagan.  To her siblings she leaves a lifetime of unforgettable memories.  John (Kathy), Kathy (Claude), Vicki (Larry), and Sue (Brian).  She was a special aunt and great aunt to many, who enjoyed her sense of humour and laughter.

Chris worked for the Federal Government and speaking to her colleagues, was told she was the best Financial Administrator ever.  She loved family, fishing, a cold beer on a hot day, playing euchre (winning), and board games (winning).  Her favourite place was a small northern town called Gowganda, and this will be her final resting place.  Thank you for enriching our lives Chris...we'll miss you!

This is a private service. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to Elisabeth Bruyère Continuing Care or the Ottawa Hospital Foundation in support of virus cancer research. Links to make a donation are located below.

Obituary:

It is with great sorrow that the Leroux family announces the passing of Gaston Leroux at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa, on Monday, April 4th 2016 at the age of 74 years old. Beloved husband of Elise Leroux (née Bernier, of Cochrane On) and dear father of Angèle Vanderlaan (Martin Hagedorn) of Ottawa, Danièle Leroux (François Jubinville) of Gatineau and Michèle Leroux (Joel Menard) of Sayre, PA. He will be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren Anya, Adrianna, Benjamin, Evan and Isabelle. He is predeceased by his granddaughter Flavie, his parents and his brother Eugene Jr. He will also be missed by his in-laws, Lorraine Lajeunesse (Ron Lajeunesse), Jacques Bernier as well as his nephews and nieces, Michel and Luc Lajeunesse, Rachel Bernier and Lindsay Surette.  A viewing will be held at McEvoy and Shields, 1411 Hunt Club Road, Ottawa on Saturday April 9th from 2pm to 5pm.  A religious service attended by immediate family only will be held at a later date in the parish of l'Ange-Gardien, Gatineau (Angers), Quebec. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Stroke Survivors Association of Ottawa would be greatly appreciated.

Gaston, a native of Timmins, Ontario, was married for 49 years to the love of his life, Elise (Bernier). They would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in July. After living in Cochrane, Timmins and Kapuskasing, it was in 1975 that the family came to settle in the Outaouais region.

He was retired from the age of 60 after a long career in the banking industry. Father of three beautiful daughters, he quickly was able to convey to them his love of life as well as his great love of nature, sports (particularly cycling), travel and gourmet food. He always showed great passion for "Jeep", motorcycles and anything that would allow him in to travel the small dirt roads in the Ottawa valley or to James Bay. His travels also made him discover several provinces of Canada, Spain, Portugal, France, the USA, including two memorable trips, Alaska and Hawaii. Gaston and Elise are also soaked in some sun rays in Mexico, Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

For the past several years, he faced many health problems. Through it all, he showed great resilience, always maintaining his joy of living and continually setting daily goals that motivated him to continue putting one foot before the other. It was definitely his strength of character along with his incredible resilience that allowed him to visit his little paradise in Florida for the last time this winter as well as to find the capacity to return to Canada to take his last breath surrounded his three "boys" and his one and only “Luv”. Now free of all suffering, we can easily imagine him traveling wherever he wants, while enjoying good wine and lovely food. Bon voyage "Daddy-o, Gaston, Luv" to a world that we believe best.

With lots of love,

Élise, Angèle, Danièle, Michèle and your grandchildren xoxoxo
