Born: December 8, 1915 in Ottawa, Ontario
Passed: March 13, 2015 in Ottawa, Ontario

Obituary:

Our beautiful family matriarch, MONA WILLIAMS (nee Piché), was born on December 8, 1915. On Friday, March 13, 2015, in her 100th year, her beautiful blue eyes closed forever.

Although her passing saddens us, we are grateful for the blessing of her sharp mind, as it allowed her to quench her thirst for knowledge until the very end, and to have lively conversations with us, despite the physical challenges of her latter years.

She taught us valuable lessons about love, hard work, tenacity, kindness, stoicism, curiosity, resiliency, and so much more. We enjoyed listening to her tales about her life experiences, and her thoughts on events and innovations that occurred throughout her lifetime. We never tired of hearing about that special night in March 1932 when she fell in love with her gallant Ernest while he taught her to skate on the local outdoor rink. That love grew into 59 years of marriage, the birth of four cherished children (Marlyn, Beverly, Barry and Carol), and the making of a wealth of wonderful memories. Our very special lady was very fond of her three sons-in-law, Harry Coyles (Marlyn), Marcel Sarazin (Beverly), and Roger Ladouceur (Carol), and her daughter-in-law, Sam (Barry). She was tremendously proud of her brood of 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Endowed with a keen sense of humour, her eyes twinkled and her smile would light up the room when we regaled her with stories about the activities, travels, and accomplishments of family members, but especially when we spoke of the children’s shenanigans.

Predeceased by her sisters and brother, and many friends and relatives, she especially grieved the passing of her husband, Ernest in 1994, and the loss of her son Barry, grandson Philippe, son-in-law Roger, and her diamond in the rough, grand-daughter Kelly. She leaves to mourn her loving daughters and their families, and her sister Muriel.

As she requested, there will be no funeral service. In her memory, donations to the Ottawa Humane Society would be gratefully appreciated.

I have lost my soul's companion,
A life linked with my own;
And day by day I miss her more,
As I walk through life alone.
To have, to hold and then to part;
Is the greatest sorrow of my heart.

In memoriam donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

ONLY YOU

I KNOW I SHOULD BE HAPPY
FOR OVER 15 YEARS OF BLISS
AND I AM, I REALLY AM
YOU MUST BELIEVE THAT IT’S TRUE
BUT IT’S HARD TO BE LEFT ALONE
AND I GUESS IT’S HARD AS WELL FOR YOU
SO I GUESS AT THE ROAD AHEAD
LYING AWAKE AND ALONE IN BED
IT’S SO HARD TO FACE THE FUTURE WITHOUT YOU

THERE’S ONLY YOU,
IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU
YOUR’E ALL I EVER WANTED, ALL I EVER NEEDED
IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU
FRIEND AND COMPANION
LOVER AND WIFE
AT MY SIDE WHEN I WAS IN NEED
MY SOULMATE, MY LIFE

THOUGH GOD STILL WALKS BESIDE ME
IT’S NOT THE SAME AS YOU
AND I MISS YOU, REALLY MISS YOU
PLEASE BELIEVE THIS IS TRUE
IT’S SO HARD TO DRUM UP INTEREST
IN TRYING THINGS ALONE
NO-ONE TO TALK WITH, LATE AT NIGHT
NO-ONE TO WALK WITH AT MORNING’S LIGHT
WHEN IT COMES TO THAT, I’D SOONER STAY HOME

THE FEEL OF YOUR TOUCH UPON MY HAND
YOUR VOICE MEANS SO MUCH – PLEASE UNDERSTAND
IT’S NOT GONE, BUT IT HAS CHANGED OR SO IT SEEMS
I SEE YOU LIGHT UP WHEN I DRAW NEAR
BUT IT’S NOT QUITE THE SAME, I FEAR
AM I JUST A VISITOR IN YOUR DREAMS
DO YOU KNOW ME, REALLY KNOW ME
AS YOUR HUSBAND AT ALL

THERE’S ONLY YOU, IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU
YOUR’E ALL I EVER WANTED, ALL I EVER NEEDED
IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU
FRIEND AND COMPANION
LOVER AND WIFE
AT MY SIDE WHEN I WAS IN NEED
MY SOULMATE, MY LIFE

STILL I GUESS WE MUST MOVE FORWARD
THERE’S NOT MUCH ELSE THAT WE CAN DO
AND I STILL LOVE YOU, REALLY LOVE YOU
I HOPE YOU KNOW THIS IS TRUE
AND I PRAY FOR GODLY GUIDANCE
‘CAUSE NO MAN SHOULD WALK ALONE
AND I STILL HOLD YOUR HANDS
I STILL TELL YOU OF MY PLANS
THOUGH AT TIMES I FIND THERE’S NO-ONE AT HOME

THERE’S ONLY YOU, IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU
YOUR’E ALL I EVER WANTED, ALL I EVER NEEDED
IT’S ALWAYS BEEN YOU
FRIEND AND COMPANION
LOVER AND WIFE
AT MY SIDE WHEN I WAS IN NEED
MY SOULMATE, MY LIFE

By my friend Trevor Gillman
